Nebraska Treasurer position could be cut by approval of measure

LINCOLN, Nebraska: Sen. Dennis Utter wants to see if Nebraska voters think the state treasurer position should be eliminated, and he's doing something about it. Utter introduced a measure that may appear on the November 2, 2010 ballot in the state of Nebraska as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment. The amendment would ask voters whether or not to abolish the position of the state treasurer.
As with any treasurer at the state level, the position requires that the candidate manages the treasury and is responsible for the Unclaimed Property program, the Nebraska College Savings program, the State Disbursement Unit for child support payment, the Long-Term Care Savings Plan, and the newly created website, Nebraskaspending.gov. The measure was introduced as a way to help save money for the state.[1]
