On November 4, 2008, McConkey ran for the Carroll District 3 of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, winning the third of three seats with 2,393 votes, behind John Roberts (R) with 2,844 votes and Susan Wiley (D) with 2,581 votes,and ahead of Virginia Heard (D) with 2,139 votes, Howard N Cunningham (D) with 2,088 votes, Donald McGarity (R) with 1,935 votes and 8 votes for others.
