Louisiana's superintendent of education no longer the highest paid state executive in the nation Feb 01, 2012

By Lauren Rodgers

Louisiana

Baton Rouge, LA: In 2010, the Louisiana Superintendent of Education was paid an estimated $341,458, according to the Council of State Governments.[1] When Paul Pastorek left the office in May of 2011, he was reportedly earning $377,000 a year.[2] Earlier this month, John White was named the new superintendent and signed a $275,000 yearly contract. In White's confirmation hearing, lawmakers were adamant that he "forgo any raises he might earn in years when other state employees have to do without." In addition to the salary, White is granted use of a state vehicle and will receive a $2,500 monthly housing allowance until April 2012.[2]

Now that the Pelican State's superintendent has been stripped of its title of the top earning state executive position, it is with great pleasure that we announce the new record holder... drumroll please... the Mississippi Superintendent of Education! In 2010, Tom Burnham earned an estimated $307,125.[1]
