Umberger has been a clerk for North Conway Water precinct since 2008 and part of the budget committee for the Town of Conway from 2000-2001 and currently since 2007. Her professional experience also includes selectman for the Town of Conway from 2001-2007 and a colonel in the United States Air Force from 1970-1998.
Umberger earned her BA from State University of New York, New Paltz and MA from the University of Arkansas.[1]

On November 4, 2008, Umberger ran for the Carroll District 1 of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, winning the fourth of four seats with 3,440 votes, behind Tom Buco (D) with 4,180 votes, Gene Chandler (R) with 4,065 votes, and Edward Butler (D) with 3,796 votes, and ahead of Syndi White (D) with 3,174 votes, Gino Funicella (D) with 2,800 votes, Daniel Avery Bacon (R) with 2,566 votes, Sue Wernette (R) with 2,555 votes, and 6 votes for Others.
