James C. "Jim" Condos (born January 29, 1951, in Orange, New Jersey) is the current Democratic Vermont Secretary of State, having been first publicly elected to the statewide executive position in November 2010. Prior to this, he had served as a member of the State Senate for eight years beginning in 2000.

Biography

Condos was born in Orange, New Jersey and raised in Burlington and South Burlington. He attended South Burlington High School and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1974.

Condos has extensive experience in both the private and public sector. Over his 30 year career, he worked for a Fortune 100 company, a $30 million family-owned Vermont grocery distribution compact and Vermont Gas Systems - a publicly-regulated utility. He has also served the public for over 20 years, first on the South Burlington City Council and later as a member of the Vermont State Senate.[1]

Political career

Secretary of State (2010 - Present)

On April 1, 2010, Condos announced his candidacy for the statewide office of secretary of state, the seat being vacated by Democrat Deborah Markowitz, who ran for the Democratic nomination in the state's gubernatorial contest. [2]

Vermont State Senate (2001 - 2008)

As a state Senator, Condos served as Chair of Senate Education, Chair of Senate Government Operations and Chair of the Joint Legislative IT Committee.
