LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas: One of the major publications in Arkansas, The City Wire, detailed a few developments in the upcoming 2012 legislative elections in Arkansas.
The battles for State Senate and State House partisan control are likely to be hotly contested this year. The signature filing deadline for candidates is March 1, 2012. All 35 Senate and all 100 House seats are up for election.
Some recent developments:
- Steve Harrelson (D) is expected to face both a primary challenge and a general election opponent. He won a close primary race in 2010 and then ran unopposed in the general election.
- Former U.S. House representative David Whitaker is expected to run for election to the Arkansas House of Representatives, representing District 85.[1]
In 2010, 10 of the 17 seats had only one major party candidate in the general election.
